About the Tri-States Railway Preservation Society

The Tri-States Railway Preservation Society studies and preserves the railroad history of the City of Port Jervis, New York and the surrounding area. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the group has a charter from the New York State Board of Education to maintain a museum exhibit of railroad memorabilia and artifacts. This museum is located inside an insulated boxcar at the historic Erie Railroad turntable in Port Jervis.

Society activities aim to manage and care for all existing museum exhibits, collect and catalog artifacts, interpret the history of the Erie Railroad as well as other major regional railways, research and mount new exhibits, and help preserve places, records, and equipment of earlier times. The society enthusiastically solicits new members from the general public as well as retirees for the purpose of furthering its work and sustaining interest in railroad history.

Society members are solicited for their interest in the Society and their willingness to accomplish its aims, as outlined above. Members volunteer for various fundraising activities, assist with researching and constructing new exhibits, and are present at exhibit locations to greet visitors. Annual membership dues are just $25 per person.
